Zomato parent Eternal building dark.ai, an encrypted AI assistant

22 October 2026

Deepinder Goyal says the company will not be able to read users' conversations.

Eternal, the parent of Zomato and Blinkit, is developing dark.ai, a privacy-focused AI assistant, founder Deepinder Goyal revealed in the company's quarterly shareholder letter.

The assistant uses end-to-end encryption and a zero-access design. Goyal said the company would not be able to read users' conversations even if forced to.

It runs fine-tuned open-weight models on Eternal's own infrastructure and includes an encrypted memory layer controlled by the user. It is being tested internally and is expected to launch globally by the end of 2026.

The product is aimed at founders, researchers, enterprises and governments. Eternal claims its models outperform rivals but has not yet published benchmarks.
