FWICE says concerns about a performer should be handled discreetly, not through public reprimand.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after a state minister publicly accused singer Daler Mehndi of being drunk during a performance.
Uttarakhand Cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted Mehndi's show at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in New Tehri and made the allegation.
The federation said it is aware that Mehndi has faced health issues and recovered from surgery, and that, to its knowledge, he does not drink. It urged that concerns about a performer's condition be handled discreetly.
It also asked public representatives and organisers to treat artists with fairness and professionalism and avoid drawing hasty conclusions.
