Jupiter turns retrograde in Leo on December 12, stays backward till April

23 October 2026

Astrologers link the phase with reflection on creativity, confidence and relationships.

Jupiter, the largest planet, will turn retrograde on December 12 at about 27 degrees of Leo in the tropical zodiac. It will appear to move backwards until April 12, 2027, when it turns direct at about 17 degrees of Leo.

Retrograde motion is an optical effect seen from Earth as our faster-moving planet overtakes the slower outer planet. Jupiter goes retrograde for about four months every year.

In astrology, Jupiter is associated with growth, wisdom and good fortune. Astrologers describe its retrograde in Leo as a time to revisit creative plans, rebuild self-confidence and reflect on relationships rather than chase rapid expansion.

For skywatchers, the period around Jupiter's retrograde is also when the planet shines brightest, rising in the evening and dominating the night sky.
