August 2, 2027 total solar eclipse: one of the century's longest, partial in India

23 October 2026

Totality will last up to 6 minutes 23 seconds along a path from Spain to the Indian Ocean.

A total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, will be one of the longest of the past 100 years, with totality lasting up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds.

The path of totality will begin in southern Europe, crossing Spain, before sweeping across Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt, then Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia, and ending over the Indian Ocean.

India will not see the total phase. Parts of western India, including Gujarat and Maharashtra, will see a partial eclipse between roughly 3:34 pm and 5:53 pm IST, depending on location.

Experts stress that the Sun should never be viewed directly. Certified eclipse glasses or indirect methods such as pinhole projection should be used to watch safely.
