Ganadhipa Sankashti Chaturthi on November 27: moonrise time and significance

23 October 2026

Devotees will fast for Lord Ganesha and break the fast after sighting the moon.

Ganadhipa Sankashti Chaturthi will be observed on Friday, November 27. The Chaturthi tithi begins at 9:48 am on November 27 and ends at 6:39 am on November 28, according to the calendar for New Delhi.

Moonrise in New Delhi is expected at 8:18 pm. Devotees traditionally break their fast after sighting the moon and offering prayers.

The day is dedicated to the Ganadhipa form of Lord Ganesha, the ruler of the ganas. According to the vrat katha, Lord Hanuman kept this fast on the advice of Sampati before crossing the ocean.

Devotees offer durva grass, modak and flowers to Ganesha and pray for the removal of obstacles. Sankashti falls on the fourth day of the waning moon every month.
