The first Ekadashi of the new year is believed to bring success to devotees.
Saphala Ekadashi, the first Ekadashi of 2027, will be observed on Sunday, January 3. The Ekadashi tithi begins at 2:24 pm on January 2 and ends at 4:08 pm on January 3, according to the calendar for New Delhi.
It falls on the eleventh day of the waning moon in the month of Pausha. The name Saphala means fruitful, and the fast is believed to bring success in one's endeavours.
Devotees worship Lord Vishnu, offer tulsi leaves and lamps, and keep a fast without grains. Many stay awake at night singing bhajans.
The fast is broken the next day after sunrise during the parana window. In south India, the day falls during the sacred month of Margazhi.
