US Postal Service unveils Diwali stamp featuring Houston artist's rangoli

23 October 2026

It is only the second Diwali stamp issued in the United States, after the first in 2016.

The United States Postal Service has released a new Diwali stamp featuring a rangoli design by Sangita Bhutada, a Houston-based artist of Indian origin who has practised the art form for nearly 30 years.

The stamp was unveiled at the Indian embassy in Washington, DC, by Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra, a senior postal service official and the artist.

Bhutada's original rangoli, made in blue, orange, green, red and white, measured eight feet across. The design was picked from four of the twelve sketches she submitted, and the postal service only asked that she use bright colours that would reproduce well on a stamp.

It is the second stamp the US postal service has issued to mark Diwali. The first was released in 2016.
