Bundi Utsav, a three-day festival held every year in the Hindu month of Kartika, has become one of Rajasthan's signature winter cultural events, drawing visitors from India and abroad to the historic town of Bundi.
The festival opens with worship of Lord Ganesha at Taragarh Fort, followed by processions of decorated camels, horses and elephants through the town's streets.
Folk music, dance and theatre are staged at the Chaurasi Khambon ki Chhatri, alongside a crafts market, food stalls serving local dishes, heritage walks and contests such as turban-tying and moustache competitions.
The highlight is the deepdan, when thousands of earthen lamps are floated on Nawal Sagar lake. First held in 1996, the festival was conceived to strengthen local pride in Bundi's heritage.
