Employees are protesting a private distribution licence granted for Gurugram and Nuh.
A three-day strike by employees of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has caused widespread power cuts in Gurugram, Faridabad, Nuh and other parts of southern Haryana, with some areas going without electricity for more than 16 hours.
The strike is against the state regulator's decision to grant Eleven Power Private Limited a 25-year parallel distribution licence for Gurugram and Nuh. Unions say the move threatens the public distribution system, and about 40,000 power employees are reported to have joined.
The outages stopped water pumps, leaving many homes without running water, and disrupted around 1,800 factories in industrial areas. The power department received more than 3,000 complaints in 12 hours, and supply was restored in many areas on Thursday night after residents protested.
The Haryana government has said it opposes the licence and will challenge the decision before the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.
