ITBP raises drone platoons in every border battalion, builds bunkers along LAC

The force has received Rs 400 crore, most of it for drone capabilities, its chief said.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police has set up a drone platoon in every border battalion and is building underground bunkers along the Line of Actual Control, its director general Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor said.

The force has received Rs 400 crore, with 70 per cent earmarked for drones, and the Home Ministry has given in-principle approval for a Rs 4,000 crore modernisation plan, including Rs 1,000 crore for drone and anti-drone systems.

A new Shaurya commando team is being placed in every border battalion, and a combat course to prepare troops for Galwan-type clashes is to be completed by the whole force by the end of 2027.

Kapoor, who retires on October 31, spoke ahead of the force's 65th Raising Day on October 24. He said 342 of 383 barracks in sub-zero areas have been insulated.
