The 50:50 venture will build 10 compressed biogas plants across India.
Petronet LNG and Gruner Renewable Energy have formed a 50:50 joint venture to invest Rs 1,200 crore in 10 compressed biogas plants across India.
Each plant will have a capacity of 18 tonnes a day, taking total capacity to about 180 tonnes a day. The plants will use agricultural and other organic waste as feedstock.
Gruner will handle feedstock sourcing, engineering and construction, operations and the sale of organic manure produced as a by-product.
The deal expands Petronet's presence in renewable gas. Compressed biogas is seen as a complement to natural gas in industry, transport and commercial use.
